Slow Cooker Bolognese Sauce Recipe

  • Author: David

Ingredients

Scale

    • 1 lb ground turkey or beef

    • 1 onion, chopped

    • 2 carrots, diced

    • 2 celery stalks, diced

    • 3 cloves garlic, minced

    • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes

    • 2 tbsp tomato paste

    • 1 tsp dried oregano

    • 1 tsp dried basil

    • Salt and pepper to taste

    • 1 cup vegetable or chicken broth

    • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

    1. Prepare the Vegetables:
Begin by heating olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, diced carrots, diced celery, and minced garlic. Sauté until the vegetables are soft and fragrant.

    1. Brown the Meat:
Add the ground turkey or beef to the pan. Cook until the meat is browned and cooked through, breaking it up with a wooden spoon as it cooks.

    1. Transfer to Slow Cooker:
Carefully transfer the sautéed vegetables and browned meat to your slow cooker.

    1. Combine Ingredients:
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, vegetable or chicken broth, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper. Mix everything thoroughly.

    1. Cook:
Cover the slow cooker and set it to cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours. The long, slow cooking process allows the flavors to meld together beautifully.

    1. Serve:
Once the sauce is ready, serve it over your favorite pasta, or enjoy it on its own with a piece of crusty bread.
