Gluten-Free Shepherd’s Pie Recipe

  • Author: David

Ingredients

Scale

  • 1 lb ground beef or turkey: Choose your preferred protein. Ground turkey offers a leaner option, while beef provides a richer flavor.
  • 1 cup chopped onions: Onions add depth to the dish with their sweet and savory notes.
  • 2 cups mixed veggies (carrots, peas, corn): These vegetables add color, nutrition, and a touch of sweetness.
  • 2 cups beef or vegetable broth: This serves as the base for our savory filling.
  • 2 tbsp gluten-free flour: Helps thicken the filling. Make sure it’s certified gluten-free.
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce: Adds umami and enhances the overall flavor.
  • Salt and pepper to taste: Essential for seasoning.
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes (prepared with dairy-free milk if desired): The creamy topping that completes the pie.
  • Olive oil: Used for sautéing the onions and browning the meat.

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 400°F (200°C) to ensure it’s ready when you are.
  2. Sauté Onions: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onions and sauté until they become soft and translucent.
  3. Brown the Meat: Add the ground beef or turkey to the skillet, stirring until it is browned completely.
  4. Add Vegetables and Seasonings: Stir in the mixed veggies, gluten-free flour, broth, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Allow the mixture to cook for about 5 minutes or until it thickens.
  5. Assemble the Pie: Transfer the meat mixture into a baking dish, then spread the mashed potatoes evenly on top.
  6. Bake: Place the dish in the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
