    • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

    • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature

    • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

    • 1 cup packed light-brown sugar

    • 1 teaspoon salt

    • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

    • 2 large eggs

    • 2 cups semisweet and/or milk chocolate chips

    • 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)


Instructions

Step 1: Prepare Your Baking Sheet

    1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).

    1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

Step 2: Combine Dry Ingredients

    1. In a small bowl, whisk together the flour and baking soda.

    1. Set aside for later.

Step 3: Cream Butter and Sugars

    1. In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to cream the butter and sugars together. Beat on medium speed until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

    1. Add the salt, vanilla extract, and eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.

Step 4: Incorporate Dry Ingredients

    1. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter-sugar mixture, beating on low speed until just combined.

Step 5: Add Chocolate and Nuts

    1. Stir in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using) with a spatula or wooden spoon until evenly distributed.

Step 6: Scoop and Bake

    1. Use a tablespoon or cookie scoop to drop dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches between each cookie.

    1. Bake until cookies are golden brown around the edges, but still soft in the center, about 12-15 minutes.

Step 7: Cool and Serve

    1. Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes.

    1. Transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
