Ingredients
Scale
Before you get started, gather the following ingredients:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 can (15 oz) black beans, rinsed
- 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, rinsed
- 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp chili powder
- 1 tsp cumin
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup beef broth (or vegetable broth)
- Optional toppings: shredded cheese, sour cream, chopped green onions
Instructions
Preparing Beef and Bean Chili is straightforward and involves a few simple steps. Follow these instructions for a savory result:
- Brown the Beef: In a large pot, brown the ground beef over medium heat until it’s fully cooked. Drain the excess fat to keep the chili from becoming too greasy.
- Sauté Aromatics: Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pot. Sauté them with the beef until the onion is soft and translucent, which usually takes about 3-4 minutes.
- Add Spices: Stir in the chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Cook for about 1 minute to let the spices release their flavors.
- Mix Ingredients: Add the rinsed black beans, kidney beans, diced tomatoes, and beef broth to the pot. Stir well to combine all the ingredients thoroughly.
- Simmer: Bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 20-30 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking and to help the flavors meld.
- Serve: Ladle the hot chili into bowls. If desired, top with shredded cheese, sour cream, or chopped green onions for added flavor and texture.
